Marc is a graduate of Ravenscroft High School where he was elected Class President, Vice President and later President of the Student Government Association. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from East Carolina University with Honors. He later earned a Master’s of Education Degree from Campbell University with Highest Honors while teaching and serving as Head Mens and Womens Varsity Soccer Coach at Broughton High School. At age 60, marked went back to Fayetteville Technical Community College earning a North Carolina Funeral Directors Degree and became a licensed funeral director at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home. Marc and his wife have been married for 40 years and have two daughters (and two dogs).
He served two terms on the Raleigh City Council from 1995-1999. Marc worked in two of Raleigh’s oldest companies, Briggs Hardware and Brown-Wynne Funeral Home. He has been active in numerous civic, community and social organizations.

On the Raleigh City Council, Marc was the Chair of the Economic Development committee and played a key role in several project agreements including:

Additionally, Marc helped push meaningful policy changes that continue to this day:

Protecting Schenck Forest and Hymettus Parks (both in District E) from development.

Protecting Falls Lake Watershed and Recreational Facility.

Expediting Hurricane Fran relief. Cutting bureaucratic red tape to give help to local residents impacted by the storm and cleaning up after the hurricane. Worked with county and state officials to give first responders access to streets and roads and to get our schools re-opened.

Supporting a municipal parks bond with no increase in property taxes or fees.
